Cats

Our resident cats are an essential part of daily farm life. These independent and agile creatures roam the grounds, keeping a watchful eye on our pastures and barns. They play a vital role in pest control, skillfully patrolling for unwanted rodents and insects, ensuring the well-being of our animal residents.

Our feline friends also bring a sense of comfort and companionship to the farm. They provide a calming presence, offering gentle affection and warmth to both humans and fellow animals. As we strive to create a harmonious and nurturing environment for all beings, the presence of our cats is a constant reminder of the interconnectedness of life at the sanctuary. They effortlessly embody the spirit of tranquility and grace, making them an integral part of the fabric of Hope & Serenity Farm Sanctuary.

  • Orchard is a litter mate of Barley, Timothy and Fescue. Her silliest quirk is her obsession with water. If there is water around, she will be at it, often balancing precariously over one of the larger water buckets in her attempts to drink as much as possible. She is one of the friendliest cats here and spends most of her time in the barn.

  • Named for Freddie Mercury, Freddie and his brother Johnny like to hang out in the barn and be adorable. They are friendly and enjoy attention from visitors.

  • Nicholas was a shelter cat who was taken in by Renee when he was about to be euthanized. He is named after a dear friend of Renee’s who has since passed and was a charming as Nicholas the cat. You can tell him apart from the other orange cats on the farm as he is incredibly svelte. But like the others, he is very loving.

  • Jasper joined us in September 2024. He doesn't want to be an indoor cat, so we are going to make him a barn cat. He loves snuggles and is very friendly.

  • Wally was originally adopted from Petsmart as an 8-week-old kitten for Renee’s son but now he is everyone’s cat. He is very friendly and cuddly and has recently retired to indoor life due to a recent illness.

  • Elsa came from a local Nokesville cat rescue and was a former feral. Although fully grown, she is very tiny. Most likely due to her feral past, she prefers to observe visitors rather than be pet by them but often will approach you if she is in the mood.

  • Timothy is the friendliest and sweetest cat at the farm. He will come to greet all visitors to the farm and never gets enough of pets and attention. He is so sweet, he will even let you pet his tummy, which is rare for a cat. He is also the most rotund cat at the farm and spends whatever time he is not being pet, eating and sleeping in the sun.

  • Fescue is litter mates with Orchard, Barley and Timothy. He and his litter mates were taken in by Renee specifically to patrol the barn. He can be identified by his yellow collar. He prefers short encounters with people and spends most of his time on Renee’s porch. So much for protecting the barn!

  • Henry was a stray that was brought into Renee’s animal hospital. He was so ferocious that he could not kept in the rescue program. Renee brought him home to save him from being euthanized. It turns out that as long as Henry is outside and not confined in any way, he is very sweet. He loves rubbing his head on people and having his head scratched. Like Smudge, he mainly lives on the porch but will come down to the farm for pets.
